10 university students, others arrested for writing WASSCE for candidates
- Ten university students are in the grips of the Akim-Oda Police for allegedly writing exams for some WASSCE candidates
- They were arrested after the WAEC examiner suspected that they were not students of the school
Some 13 students have been arrested by the police for sitting in and writing the ongoing West African Senior School Examination (WASSCE) for students of the PLACID International School in the Eastern region.
Ten of the culprits are reportedly University students, while the other three were identified as students from fellow second-cycle institution, Star International school.
Information from the Police indicates that the 13 students were caught after an examiner at the centre raised questions about their eligibility.
Upon further checks, it was realized that they were not students of the PLACID International School, but were writing the WASSCE for other students.
Explaining further, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, said all 13 students have been charged with impersonation and are being processed for court.
“The university students are ten. They came from the universities across the length and breadth of the country, the most prominent ones.
“We have UCC, Legon, University of Science and Technology and the University of Professional Studies. Three other students who came from Star International School were also arrested. So in all, we have 13 students, ten of them university students and three others, ” he told Accra-based Citi FM.
He added: “ So as we speak now, all the 13 students are in our custody. We are processing them for court for a charge of impersonation so that the court will deal with them.”
