The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC), has criticized the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over the cancellation of results of some 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates. According to the coalition, the constant exam malpractices in the BECE will discredit certificates issued by the Council. “For us it is very unacceptable because it has implications on the certificate issued at the end of the day. If these things persist, the certificate will not be considered as credible and that will affect the opportunities that will be available for the children going forward.” The entire results of 83 candidates who wrote the 2018 BECE were cancelled. The West African Examinations Council, (WAEC), has released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). In a statement signed by Agnes Teye Cudjoe, Deputy Director, Public Affairs at WAEC, the council said it is in the process of dispatching the results to the schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Last Monday, WAEC asked the general public to disregard reports that it had officially released results of candidates who sat for the 2018 BECE. But after officially releasing the results, WAEC said it has “hosted the results online, and candidates who so desire may access their results at the Council’s website”. Accra, Aug. 24, GNA - The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates, who sat for the 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). It has, however, withheld the results of 2,061candiates for allegedly indulging in examination malpractices until conclusion of investigations. WAEC Threatens To Cancel Entire Results Of Candidates Caught With Mobile Phones

West    African    Examination Council    (WAEC) has said any candidate that  comes into the examination hall with mobile phones or any other electronic gadgets will    have his or her entire results cancelled, as it begins  registration for second series of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)  for private candidates. Results from 2018 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASCCE) indicate a 1.8% rise in the number of candidates who passed in the four core subjects. The subjects are Mathematics, English, Integrated Science and Social Studies. The Ghana Education Service and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) have been summoned to appear before Parliament’s Education Committee over the abysmal performance of students in the 2018 WASSCE. The results released last week indicate that close to two hundred thousand students may not gain access to tertiary institutions in the country due to poor performance in the core subjects. Speaking to Expo Room, Chairman of the Education Committee, Siaka Stevens, said the committee would be seeking answers aimed at improving WASSCE results. “We want to meet WAEC and GES to explain to us the abysmal performances of students, why results have been withheld. Provisional results by WAEC indicate that 193,882 candidates, representing 61.67% of all candidates who sat for the WASSCE failed to obtain the minimum pass mark in any of the three core subjects required for admission into universities in the country.
